All prospective students will be given the opportunity to apply for admittance at Thomas Jefferson Charter School regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, gender, social or economic status, special needs, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

    Admission Procedures

Thomas Jefferson Charter School has identified the following admission procedures:

If there are more applicants than available seats a lottery will be held by June 30th to establish the waiting list order of entrance for the upcoming school year. All openings during the school year will be filled according to the order established by that lottery.

    • Application forms will be available at the Charter School website., via e-mail or other designated locations.
      • The lottery will consist of four priority admission groups ordered as follows:
      • founders’/school board’s/employees’ children.
      • currently enrolled students,
      • siblings of currently enrolled students
      • all other applicants.
    • Prior to enrollment each year, Thomas Jefferson Charter School will advertise in the local newspapers and other available medium.
    • If you are not enrolled but want to remain in the lottery for the following school year, you must reapply no earlier than two months prior, but no later than two weeks before the set lottery drawing date.
    • The process will begin with the highest grade and proceed down the grade ranks to kindergarten. Those on the waiting list may be placed in the school any time during that school year when an opening occurs.
    • Once the enrollment period is complete and waiting lists have been established through lottery as described above, subsequent applications will be added to the waiting lists on a first come-first serve basis
    • It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure contact data is updated as well as reapply for the following year.
    • If TJCS does not receive a confirmed response within 24 hours, they will move to the next person on the list.
    • The TJCS Administrator supervises the lottery selection process.
    TJCS's Process for Enrollment

Intent to register letters must be signed by each student’s parent or guardian and returned to Thomas Jefferson Charter School by the date specified in the letter. If no response is received within 7 days, the available seat will be offered to the next student on the waiting list. In accordance with the TJCS Charter, the lottery has the following preferences (tiers):

    • First, to pupils returning to TJCS in the second or any subsequent year of operation. Returning students are automatically enrolled in the appropriate grade and do not need to be selected by a lottery.
    • Second, to children of founders and full-time employees provided that this admission preference shall be limited to not more than ten percent (10%) of the capacity of TJCS.
    • Third, to siblings of pupils already enrolled in TJCS.
    • Fourth - all other applicants
